How do I print and display tex, latex, dvi, and PostScript (ps) files?
The following is a useful list of commands that can be run at the Unix prompt:

TeX converts a TeX document into a DVI (Device Independant) document. |
latex |
LaTeX converts a LaTeX document into a DVI (Device Independant)
document. LaTeX is a higher level language built on top of TeX. |
xdvi |
Displays a DVI document on an X display. |
dvips |
Converts a DVI document into a PostScript document. |
gs |
GhostScript and GhostView display a PostScript document on an X display. |
ghostview |
GhostScript and GhostView display a PostScript document on an X display. |
lpr |
Prints a PostScript document. |
distill |
Creates an Acrobat File (.pdf) from a PostScript file. |
